Katherine (Bogus) Bartus, 90, of Belle Vernon (Rostraver Township) died at home on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, following a courageously fought battle with cancer.  “Kitty” was also a resident of Redstone Highlands North Huntingdon for one year.  Born the youngest of ten children on March 23, 1921 in Lowhill, PA, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Barbara (Bulchutz) Bogus and was also preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Frank "Doc" Bartus, five brothers and three sisters.

 

Left to mourn the passing of the family matriarch are three sons: Henry (Joan) Bartus of Philadelphia, Dr. Raymond (Cheryl) Bartus of San Diego, CA, and Frank (Cynthia) Bartus of Boston, MA and three daughters: Cheryl Bartus of Donora, Linda (Barry) Prosser of Dayton, OH, and Dr. Michelle Bartus (Dr. Peter) Nelson of Rostraver Township, with whom she recently made her home.  She also leaves behind eleven grandchildren: Raymond Bartus, Jr., Kristin (Brian) Dickson, Brody McFadden, Chad Cantoni, Joseph (Jamie) Walker, Eric (Terrah) Prosser, Tara (William) Campbell, Douglas (Jessica) Nelson, Jeremy (Angela) Nelson, Jonathon Bartus and Christopher Bartus; eight great grandchildren: Logan and Claire Campbell, Joseph, Jr., Evan, Riley and Resse Walker and Malachi and Jordin Nelson, a sister, Helen Shuber of Ocala, FL, and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Mrs. Bartus was a member of the Church of St. Anne in Rostraver Twp.  In her prime, she was actively involved in the Confraternity of Christian Mothers, the Fellsburg Women's Club, and numerous golf leagues, bowling leagues and card clubs in the area.  Her main hobby was spending time in her flower garden, which she continued to enjoy thru 2009 when her health declined.  She loved to entertain in her beautifully landscaped yard, once hosting her grandson's wedding reception at the age of 86.  Anyone who knew her will remember her great sense of humor, her energetic lifestyle, and her love for her family.

 

Friends will be received on Friday, January 27, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the James C. Stump Funeral Home Inc., 580 Circle Drive, Belle Vernon/Rostraver Township (724-929-7934) www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com where a Blessing service will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Anne, 1870 Rostraver Road, Belle Vernon, PA with the Rev. Vincent J. Gigliotti as celebrant.   Interment will follow in West Newton Cemetery.
