Evelyn Shoemaker Stewart, 71, of Belle Vernon (Rostraver Township), died Tuesday, January 19, 2010 in her home.  Born in North Charleroi on April 16, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Joseph W. and Julia (Strauss) Shoemaker.

Evelyn loved knitting sweaters.  She was an avid reader and organic gardener.  She also loved art and water color painting.

She is survived by her son, Alexander "Jay" Stewart, Jr. of Tacoma, WA; 2 daughters, Audrey S. Richardson of Greensburg and Aurlie J. Dover of Glendale, CA; 6 grandchildren, Angela, Renee, Anna, & Tiffany Kent, Connie DeLuca, and Alexander Stewart III; great grandchild, Sierra Sperry; sister, Claire J. (Joseph) Prati of Charleroi; son-in-law, Ronald Kent of Roscoe; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander J. "Sandy" Stewart, Sr. on October 22, 2001; a daughter, Amy Jeanne Kent; and son-in-law, Brian G. Richardson.

Friends will be received on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the James C. Stump Funeral Home Inc., 580 Circle Drive, Belle Vernon/Rostraver Township (724-929-7934) www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com where a Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Klein officiating.  Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
