Ruth H. Balis, 67, of Rostraver Township, died Friday, July 11, 2008 in Jefferson Regional Medical Center.  Born in New York City on June 19, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Kurt and Melly (Rosenzweig) Wolff.

A homemaker, Ruth was a member of Beth Israel Center in Jefferson Boro, where she held the offices of Treasurer and Financial Secretary; the Sisterhood, having served as President; life member of Hadassah, and a 30+ year member of the Rostraver Women's Club, serving as Treasurer.  Ruth was a proud full- time Bubbe with her grandchildren and was the computer operator and secretary for her husband, Sammy.  She was a great cook and always had Jewish Holiday dinners for family and friends.  She was a Mah-Jong Maven and liked to knit with a group of ladies who called themselves the "knitwits".

She is survived by her

husband of 40 years: Samuel “Sammy” Balis, whom she married August 19, 1967

son: Howard “Howie” Balis of Rostraver Township

daughter & son-in-law: Karen Sue & Edward Leventhal of Brookeville, Maryland

2 grandchildren: Zachary Seth Leventhal and Alyssa Beth Leventhal

Friends will be received on Monday from 1 to 2 p.m., the hour of service in the James C. Stump Funeral Home Inc., 580 Circle Drive, Belle Vernon/Rostraver Township (724-929-7934) www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com  Interment will follow in the Ohav Sholom Cemetery, Carroll Township.
