Janie Jones Caldwell, 78, of Salisbury, NC, formerly of Rostraver Township, died Monday, October 20, 2008 in Carillon Assisted Living, Salisbury, NC.  Born in Donora on March 26, 1930, she was the daughter of the late William C. and Thelma (Rupert) Jones.

Janie worked for American Steel & Wire Co. and the J. C. Penney Company in Donora, Dr. Charles Stewart in Charleroi and Dr. Anthony Cocciolone in North Belle Vernon, retiring in August 1998.  She was a member of Emanuel Baptist Church in Donora and served as Choir Director from 1965 to 2000.  Her hobbies included church choirs, card clubs, flower gardening and line dancing.

She is survived by her 2 daughters; Debra C. (Albert) Bendig of Salisbury, NC and Jan C. (Jerry) Hatley of Richmond, VA; son; Brad A. (Terri) Caldwell of Frederick, MD; 7 grandchildren; sister; Sally (Thomas) Smedley of Rostraver Township; brother; Ret. Brig. Gen. William C. (Diane) Jones, Jr. of Richmond, VA; sister-in-law; Betty(Hank) Garde of Tallahassee, FL.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Caldwell on August 2, 2001.

Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the James C. Stump Funeral Home Inc., 580 Circle Drive, Belle Vernon/Rostraver Township (724-929-7934) www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com where a Funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Kenneth Kirby officiating.  Interment will follow in West Newton Cemetery.
