Dorothy Ann Upperman

Dorothy Ann (McMinn) Upperman, born April 17, 1940 in N. Charleroi, a daughter of Martin L. & Harriett (Stoneman) McMinn passed away peacefully at home on Monday, February, 5, 2024.

 

Dorothy graduated from Rostraver High School in 1958, and from West Penn Hospital School of Nursing in 1961. Dorothy married Harry N. Upperman on September 2, 1961, the day after graduating from West Penn. She worked for two years in Norfolk, VA until Harry`s discharge from the Navy. She worked for 9 years at Westmoreland Hospital then became a stay-at-home mom raising their two children, Linda and Kevin, and being very involved in their activities and in the West Newton United Presbyterian Church. In 1989 she went back to work as a charge nurse at Westmoreland Manor until retirement in 2001.

 

Dorothy is a long-standing, faithful member of West Newton U.P.C., having served as an elder, a volunteer, and was active in the Presbyterian Women`s Association.  After retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at Westmoreland Manor and Smithton Food Bank.

 

In addition to being survived by her beloved husband, Harry; Dorothy is survived by her children, daughter Linda S. Kephart (Luke) and son Kevin L. Upperman (Beth); and her grandchildren, Joshua (Midge) Carter-Kephart, Rebekah Kephart, Caleb Kephart and William Upperman. She is also survived by her sister Lucille Geary of Dawson, PA, sister-in-law Olive McMinn, and brother-in-law Jack Jones, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Robert and Bruce McMinn, and sister Betty Lou (McMinn) Jones.

 

Friends will be received on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the James C. Stump Funeral Home Inc., 580 Circle Drive, Rostraver Township (724-929-7934) www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com where a Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 3 p.m. with Pastor John Manon officiating.  Interment will follow in West Newton Cemetery. 

 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to either West Newton United Presbyterian Church or the Presbyterian Women's Association Missions Fund.
