Henry Flannigan, Jr., 91, of Monongahela, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2024. Born in Rostraver Township on January 29, 1933, he was the son of the late Henry P. and Lora (Artis) Flannigan and was brother to deceased sisters, Helen (Rozik), Bonnie (Porter), Patricia (Gantner) and Frances (Prince). Survived by Beverly Freycenet of Longwood, FL; brother, John Flannigan of Palm Coast, FL and was "Uncle Hank" to the numerous Flannigan clan.
Hank enlisted in the US Air Force after following his Dad into the steel industry. The discovery of color blindness led to his missing out on his dream of flying airplanes. He served in Europe and earned an Honorable Discharge with the rank of Sergeant.
He was a graduate a California State Teachers College and earned his Masters at Colgate University. Throughout his career he taught advanced mathematics and science courses, eventually retiring from Ringgold School District. In addition to his many classroom responsibilities, he, along with his wife Joye, were the inaugural sponsors of the Hunting and Fishing Club at Ringgold.
After his retirement from teaching, Hank expanded his involvement with his own 3R Construction and invested much of his time enjoying fishing and hunting activities with family and friends. His castle was located on Sneezy Road, but he was especially proud of his camp on Jamie Lane.
He was a member of the congregation of Journey by Grace Church in Rostraver, where he participated in choir and holiday pageants. He was also active in the Monongahela Food Bank.
Hank enjoyed spending time with family and often found himself entertaining by telling jokes, challenging with riddles or playing card games. He and his soulmate, Joye, especially loved watching their grandchildren graduate. Being present at graduations was not an option and consequently they traveled to Illinois, Ohio, Oklahoma, Georgia, Virginia, Iowa and many parts of Pennsylvania to observe commencement ceremonies.
He is survived by his children, H. Brian (Lisa) Flannigan of Rockwood, PA, Rebecca (Norm) Hofmeister of Carroll Township, Timothy (Cynthia) Flannigan of Powell, OH and Randall (Adrienne) Flannigan of Cummins, GA; grandchildren, Greg (Thomas) Flannigan, Dan (Kailee) Flannigan, Matt (Tamba) Flannigan, Alyssa (Doug) Sutherland, Dr. Aaron (Renee) Hofmeister, Heidi (Ryan) Pergola, Jennifer (Josh) Borean, Jessica (Tom) Johnson, Brittany (Grant) DuPont, Bethany Flannigan, Angela Flannigan, Kaitlin (Connor) Holliday and Abigail Flannigan; great-grandchildren, Lillian, Charlotte, Eloise, Sadie, Delaney, Gianna, Madeline, Liam, Noah, Natalie, Danielle Evelina and Hank was anxiously awaiting the birth of great-grandchild Holliday.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Joye G. Flannigan on April 13, 2023.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 4, 2025 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Journey by Grace Church, 4803 PA-51, Rostraver Township.
