Jane L. Gobbie

Jane L. (Mackin) Gobbie, 92, died peacefully in her own bed, in her own home, in the arms of family, surrounded by the people she cherished and who loved and treasured her. She leaves us to join her beloved husband of 62 years, Richard L. Gobbie, who passed away five years earlier.

The youngest child of the late Francis and Catherine (Loftus) Mackin, she was raised as the only daughter along with her three older brothers Joseph, Jack and Jim in Osceola Mills, Pennsylvania. Born September 17, 1932, Jane thrived in the loving embrace of her traditional Irish-Catholic heritage. A graduate of Osceola Mills High School, she took pride in being both the head cheerleader and the valedictorian of the Class of 1950.

Under her older brother's guidance, Jane left central Pennsylvania to pursue a degree in nursing at the Mercy School of Nursing in Pittsburgh. While still in school, she met the love of her life, Richard Gobbie, a young dental student from Clairton, Pennsylvania. Jane and Rich began their lifelong adventure in June of 1957. Together they raised eight children in Rostraver, Pennsylvania. Their life was filled with rich experiences and many bountiful blessings.

Jane excelled at being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was the quintessential mom--a perfect blend of June Cleaver, Carol Brady and Edith Bunker, with a hint of MacGyver thrown in to keep the house in running order!

Jane was a woman of deep faith and she instilled that faith into her family. More importantly, she lived her faith daily by example and deed.

She had a heart that could envelope the world. Small but mighty, she was also kind and good natured. She was always welcoming and hospitable. Everyone who experienced her warmth, felt the generosity of a hug, or been comforted by the touch of her hand knew what a special woman she was. Her blue eyes sparkled and her smile was contagious.

Jane excelled at remembering the people in her life. When you received a card or note from her, the salutation was always the same, "Love and God Bless." As we say goodbye to this remarkable lady, we can all say "Love and God Bless You, Jane Gobbie" you will be missed!

Jane is survived by her children, Richard F. Gobbie of Pittsburgh, Joseph A. Gobbie of Pittsburgh, Katherine (Zdzislaw) Chorazy of Erie, Ann M. (Paul) Schneid of Port St. Lucie, FL, Patricia M. (Robert) Vlah of Upper St. Clair, Mary G. (Lou) Halvas of Mt. Lebanon, Thomas C. Gobbie of Pittsburgh and David P. (Tracey) Gobbie of Bethel Park; her grandchildren, Paul (Melissa), Steven (Jenny), Michael, Jillian, Mark, Christina (RJ), Jacqueline, Julia, Angelina and Eli; and a great-grandchild, Liam Paul.

Friends will be received on Friday, November 29, 2024 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the James C. Stump Funeral Home Inc., 580 Circle Drive, Rostraver Township (724-929-7934) www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com A Blessing Service will take place on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at 9:00 a.m., presided over by Reverend Roselo A. Jane loved flowers, but she cared about people more. Both she and her husband were committed to the power of an education to impact a life in a positive manner. Therefore, the family requests, in lieu of flowers, a meaningful contribution be made in the name of Jane L. Gobbie to the Crossroads Foundation www.crossroadsfoundation.org  at 6901 Lynn Way, Pittsburgh, PA 15208. We can all celebrate Jane's life by empowering Crossroads to celebrate the lives of its young scholars.
