Matthew W. Sweeney

Matthew W. Sweeney, 88, of Rostraver Township, died Friday, April 8, 2022. Born in Rostraver Township on May 7, 1933, he was the son of the late John F. and Anna A. (Accipiter) Sweeney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Matthew W. Sweeney Jr.; and brothers, Patrick J. Sweeney and George R. Sweeney.
Matt was one of the owners of the Rostraver Shopping Center located in Rostraver Township. He was Catholic by faith. Matt honorably served his country in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Eileen (McCune) Sweeney; daughter, Patricia Sweeney; daughter-in-law, Mary Beth Sweeney; grandsons, Matthew W. Sweeney III (fiance` Lily Gharib) and Zachary T. Sweeney; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Sunday from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. and Monday from 12 to 1 p.m. in the James C. Stump Funeral Home Inc., 580 Circle Drive, Rostraver Township (724-929-7934) www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com where a Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. Interment, with Military Honors, will follow in West Newton Cemetery.
