Robert O. Allen, 95, of Rostraver Township died Wednesday, February 22, 2017 in The Residence at Hilltop. Born in Belle Vernon on March 17, 1921, he was the son of the late Roland and Jennie (Forsberg) Allen.
Mr. Allen was a World War II Veteran, a member of the 82 Airborne Division. He was wounded during the invasion of Sicily. An avid pilot, he earned his Private Pilots License after recovering from his wounds and enjoyed flying for many years. He worked as a private contractor in an excavating business, drove school bus for the Rostraver School District, worked as a janitor for the Belle Vernon Area School District, and owned a hardware business prior to his retirement.
He is survived by his sons, Robert (Nancy) Allen of Rostraver Twp. and Gary (Terri) Allen of South Huntington Twp.; grandchildren; Lisa (Eric) Banasick of Everson, Wendy (Matt) Jennewine of South Huntington Twp., Gary (Brandy) Allen, Jr. of Virginia, Christopher (Allison) Allen of Maryland, Michael Allen of Maryland, and Caitlin Allen of South Huntington Twp.; and 8 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sara E. "Betty" Allen.
Friends will be received on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the James C. Stump Funeral Home Inc., 580 Circle Drive, Belle Vernon/Rostraver Township (724-929-7934) www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com where a Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Ken Sommerfeldt officiating. Interment, with Military Honors, will follow in West Newton Cemetery.
